There are a number of companies who offer specialist silo cleaning services which avoid the need to enter the silo, the link below is an example:

I am sure any of the specialist companies would be happy to come to your site and advise on your particular installation.

Silo Cleaning

Posted on 16. Oct. 2006 - 12:14

hello,

you can use indeed a mecanised system propelled by air pressure from the plant...6 bar ...you have to get a certain volume of 6m3/mn for the machine to be effective.

The machine is installed on silo top manhole...and operator can proceed with cleaning in a safe and effective manner.

Our company provides such services in Asia....where is your location ?

Cheers

One of your many options would be to use our Bin Whip system.

Its similar to all the air powered whipping machines, but has the overall advantage of being powered by hydraulics .

Wnat to save heaps of $$$ getting some contractor to fly in??

Get an air hose - heavy duty type...with joiners etc every so often eg 4 m or so. At these connections - fix into the joint a steel plate - square shape etc.

Do this every so often...get a snake with plates

Hang it down and give it some compressed air.

It should whip around and give your silo a clean.

Another method could be shot guns/explosives.

Need to be very careful with hoses in silos - if they break > can cuase ajmming issues down stream - as we found out with an expert silo cleaner who left site with his tail between his legs and us with a severe problem.

Cheers

James

@r.j.morrish

That is certainly a novel way to clean a silo, but if it works who am I to argue ;-)

Who was the silo cleaning "expert" who lost their hose? (just out of interest)

Re: Steel Clinker Silo Cleaning

Posted on 21. Oct. 2006 - 04:47

Depending on how big the silo is, you might consider a high pressure water lance.

Saw a small (14 ft dia x 30 ft high), ash silo cleaned out this way. Ash was hardened like concrete inside.(Years of buildup) Too hard to clean out with pick & shovel.

Was just as big a job to clean up the chunks & slurry on the ground after wards as it was to clean out the silo.

Re: Steel Clinker Silo Cleaning

Posted on 22. Oct. 2006 - 06:13

We had a guy clean our cement silo from buildups - his hose was stuck in the outlet - the result of this...cement coming out of the silo uncontrolled was worse than the build ups.

We have used explosives to clear a outlet blockage on clinker silos.

The hose methods has been used to clean PH tower vessels with success and should be no reaosn why no OK for clinker silos.

Any lateral thinking on the part of the owner before getting someone to fly in and a large crane to lift gear FIRST is worth it.

Cheers

There is only one safe, fast and effective way to break/remove/clean the harden clinker in the silo- the Cardox CO2 Blasting System.

Cardox System has been used by all major cement companies for clearing build-ups and blockages in silo, preheater towers, cyclones, rotary kilns, coolers, precalciners.

The system can be used for breaking concrete, rock, granite etc so breaking harden clinkerwill not be a problem. When use for other cement processes, it will not damage the refractory lining.

Please see the attachments for more information.

Do not know if everyone will be keen on drilling holes at close centrees thru post tensioned concrete silos or steel silos

Cardox has it place. Need to think about access to the outside of the silo and also engress whilst firing the CO2 shot.

Cardox is one of the tools we use to remove hang-ups/blockages, but as r.j.morrish states, not many people are willing to have holes cut into their silo just to remove their hung-up product.

Unless we could actually see the problem silo, we couldn't really advise on which is the best method to remove the hang-up.

There many ways to apply Cardox.Beside drilling holes through silo wall, Cardox can be applied through inspection hatch door, from top of the silo, man hole etc; all you need is find a way to insert Cardox tube into the build up.

In fact, if holes are drilled, Cardox sockets will be welded onto the holes and these heavy duty sockets will act as stiffness and hence will not affect the silo wall's mechanical strengh.

Cardox has been used for silo cleaning for more than 20 years and so far there is no problem or complain.

Flat Bottom Steel Silo

Posted on 2. Dec. 2006 - 06:34

This kind of silo has larger diameter and capacity, which is popular for

its easy installation and low costs. There are many ways of unloading,

such as the fluidized unloading, multi-spot unloading, the flat bottom

sweeping unloading and clean by hands etc... We can also choose the

concrete conical bottom to put the automatic-flow unloading into practice.

The flat-bottom steel silos can be widely used in grain process and

storage lines, some of them can be chosen to be used in oil, feed, flour,

starch, brew, and port or grain storage industrial lines.

Main Features: It is popular with its simple structure, large capacity,

various ways of unloading. Further more flat bottom steel silos can be

easily maintained.

we are exporter and mannufacturer of this silo.

If you need,please contact me.

Re: Steel Clinker Silo Cleaning

Dear Mall,

Cardox action is the expansion of CO2 and not an explosion, it does not affect the steel silo structure.

Cardox would NOT damage the silo structure when the discharge ports of the Tube are in the build-up....WHY?.... because when the Tube activates, the CO2 discharged although appearing instantaneous is relatively slow (only 400m/s) so does not produce shock waves that would transfer into the structure, what is more THE CO2 DOES NOT TRANSFER ACROSS ANOTHER PLAIN or JOINT INTO ANOTHER MATERIAL! (It will not transfer from one material to another). Gas will travel where there is less pressure

and resistance.

Once the CO2 pressure breaks the build-up and passes to the steel wall it 'cleaves' along the joint - NOT TRANSFERRING into the structure.

This can be explained further by the following example: Cardox was originally developed for the safe excavation of relatively soft coal. One of the main advantages / benefits when it was used in the coal mines - THE COAL SEAM WAS EXCAVATED BUT THE ROOF AND FLOOR WERE IN PERFECT CONDITION - so the CO2 does not transfer across plains or natural joints. [When the mine used explosives the roof and floor were damaged....WHY.... because explosives works by a shock wave created by the tremendous velocity of activation of gases (at least 10,000m/s ~ 20,000m/s) (Cardox = only 400m/s so in comparison is a 'gentle heaving action'

Mall, please email me your mailing address and email address, I will send you more information.

Happybetty,

you will be even merrier when you find out that hangups in silos can be obviated by a vibrating floor, which allows automatic reclaim and clean-up of flat bottom silos. Please take a look at silexport.com

I read your application with interest and I also noted that our company PRIMASONICS INTERNATIONAL were mentioned by another. For Safe, Effective and Remote Silo Cleaning we offer for sale the Prima Whip (in a variety of models, depending on silo dimensions). Have a look at this specific link

prima whip brochure

href="http://www.primasonics.com/primawhip.htm#remote" target="blank">http://www.primasonics.com/primawhip.htm#remote)

The Prima Whip is constructed from non-sparking metal and used compressed air to drive two counter rotating motors to which are attached short lengths of brass chain. The Prima Whip can easilly be operated by one operator from the top of the silo plus the fact that during this cleaning operation the silo can still safely discharge material.

We can send you a DVD and reference list plus a quotation, should you be interested. I also attach our Prima Whip brochure and will be pleased to answer any questions you might have.

Safe Cleaning!

Kind regards

Donald

To eliminate future build up - so silo cleaning is not needed again- and no need to create any holes in the vessel wall, you can consider using pneumatic vibrators.

VERY large models for large silos are available.

They are mounted on the outside of the wall via welding and the vibration energy transfers into the material.

Vibrators will:

Develop required energy to create flow

Reduce sliding wall friction

Reduce material strength and cohesiveness

Minimize over-compaction of material

Not effect hopper structure when installed and run properly

It works just like the Newton's Cradle simulates below:

The ball on the right being the vibrator/piston, the 3 balls in the middle are the bin wall, and the ball on the left is the material.

Sonic Horn

Posted on 3. Aug. 2019 - 05:01

you can clean it with by acoustic cleaning method.

workers go inside is truely dangerous.

there are many companies who can do the job by sonic horn. here are two of them.

sonic wave generated by the horn could cause acoustic fatigue, the clinker would fall.
