Stearic acid coating on calcium carbonate

Posted in: , on 2. Aug. 2006 - 10:36

We are manufacturing Ground Calcium Carbonate (GCC). The final product is a dry CaCO3 powder with particle size 20 microns (top cut).

We want to coat the CaCO3 powder with 2% stearic acid. Can you recommend the best/suitable way to achieve this?

Thanks,

Saurabh Singhania

Dear Saurabh,

The most effective way to coat GCC with stearic acid

is to use an Ecutec coating plant on basis of our pin-mill with

a stearic acid injector.

This will safe a lot of energy, acid and you will have a top final

product quality and uniformity.

Contact us.

Hay,

You have an unauthorised photograph of RSG Inc equipment on your website, please remove it.

I know this is slightly off-topic on an old thread, but what is the difference between coated and uncoated ground calcium carbonate (GCC)? Different color? Different industrial application? Is Stearic Acid the only chemical that can coat GCC? If there are others, what are they?

One of the most important markets of GCC coated is the plastic industry. GCC is one of the fillers in plastics. When the plastic is introduced into the press or extruder the mineral particles generates some abrasion. The cover of acid stearic is a soft layer that works against the abrasion. During the mould process the acid stearics is evaporate increasing the temperature of the sustance.
