Maximum Speed Of Belt Conveyor For Urea Handling
Dear Mohammed
maximum belt speed depends on conveyor belt width . And is selected based on somany conditions
for example
conceyor capacity
conveyor length
Generally in plant conveyors where length is not more speed is restricted to 3 m/sec
Material degradation is not due to high speed of conveyor however this is due to the fact bad chute design and loading point design.
if you take material by truck at 130 km per hour your matrial will not damage however if you dont load and unload material carefully you will dmage material

If you take material by truck at 130km/hour in a civilised country you will go to jail. ■

Re: Belt Speed
Dear Mr. Mohammed,
There are many fertilizer plants in India which are manufacturing Urea. This is normally conveyed at 1 mps, but one can also go up to 1.25 mps or if the conveyor is exceptionally long, you can use 1.5 mps. Generally, the in-plant conveyors are very less in length and thereby the usual practice is to have 1 mps speed for Urea prills. You can refer to Urea manufacturers and plant people for more specific information.
Please note that the restriction of speed is not from conveyor design and operation point of view but it is due to delicacy of material for which more impact at transfer point is not desirable from economy point of view.
The above practice is generally inline with the international practice.

Re: Belt Speed
Dear Mr. Mohamed,
The optimum speed of a conveyor depends on many factors (capacity, length, inclination of the conveyor, etc...). The last one we delivered for an Egyptian client working in urea was running 1,2 m/s and no problems were recorded since then.

Belt Speed
Dear Sirs,
What is the MAXIMUM allowable speed of the belt conveyor for conveying of Granular Urea from the point of maintaining the product quality (avoid crushing or dust formation). Granular urea crushing strength is about 3.5 kg.
