This, the 1st International Symposium on Ultrafine Grinding (Ultrafine Grinding 2006), is organised by Minerals Engineering International and sponsored by Xstrata Technology and Industrial Minerals.

Many modern ore deposits are fine-grained and complex, requiring ultrafine grinding.

For some ores, adequate liberation of values is obtained only after grinding to sizes less than 20 microns, and sometimes much less.

Grinding to sizes as fine as this is inefficient and uneconomic in ball mills, and mining companies are now having to assess alternative technology, such as stirred milling.

Such technology has been in use for some time in other industries, such as chemicals and pharmaceuticals, and the aim of this meeting is to bring together scientists and engineers from different disciplines, to discuss common aims and problems.

Papers are invited, therefore, not only from the minerals industry, but also from any industry employing ultrafine grinding methods.

This conference immediately precedes Hydrocyclones 06 (http://www.min-eng.com/hydrocyclones06/), which will bring together technologists from disparate industries to discuss the use of the hydrocyclone, a device often indispensable in ultrafine grinding.

Call for papers

Papers are invited for presentation at Ultrafine Grinding 06. All papers must be written and presented in English, the official language of the conference.

Abstract Submission

Short abstracts, of no more than 150 words, should be sent to Dr. Barry Wills by email (bwills@min-eng.com).

Draft Papers

If accepted, draft papers will be required. These will form the unrefereed Proceedings, which will be available to delegates on CD-ROM at the conference.

Final Papers

Final papers should be submitted no later than one month after the end of the conference. These will be refereed, and, if accepted, published in a special Ultrafine Grinding issue of Minerals Engineering. Corresponding authors will receive one complimentary copy of this special issue. All other delegates may purchase the special issue from Elsevier Science Ltd at a discounted rate.
