Hello,

I would like to determine what the maximum size of limestone that may be conveyed by a typical bulk pneumatic truck with on-board blower. The limestone that I am considering would have a top-size of up to 6 mm (1/4"). Can that size be handled with a PD truck ? If not, what is the maximum size that can be blown to a silo ?

Thanks,

You should plan on a huge air compressor or even larger blower to move that size material into a silo-most bulk commodities are 40 mesh or smaller

that are delivered by low pressure high volume blower that is trailer or truck mounted-another

issue is weight restrictions on the highway as you will be carrying a huge weight.

The trailer 0equipment manufacturer has done

all the work in regard to sizing of material

and delivery volume-talk to them first as you will be blowing tires constantly otherwise.

If you are only considering the off-loading of the vehicle at a depot or destination point then a particle size of 6 mm does not represent a problem.

The limestone is only likely to be conveyed in dilute phase suspension flow and so you will have to maintain a conveying line inlet air velocity of about 20 m/s (4000 ft/min). Your on-board blower will have to achieve this for whatever diameter of pipeline you are likely to have to blow through at the depot.

If your limestone is abrasive, the pipelines that you deliver through will have to have wear resistant bends. Straight sections of pipeline will also wear over time on the bottom surfaces.

You will also have to give due consideration to the pipeline feeding device on the truck. If you are delivering through a number of different depot pipelines the feeder must have a facility for changing the limestone feed rate into the pipeline. It should also be suitable for abrasive materials, if this is the case.

Barry

1/4 " pebble ime is not a problem. Even larger can be handled pneumatically.

3/4 " x 0" has been conveyed very often as part of FGD systems for coal fired power plants.

If the truck has a self contained blower, it will either need to be supplemented with an additional blower at the site, or, a larger blower at the site can be used and the truck blower not used at all.
