The thirteenth Propak Asia show closed on Saturday 25th June in Bangkok, setting new records both in terms of exhibitor participation and visitor attendance.

The show attracted 612 participating companies from 32 countries and 22,413 professional visitors, including more than 1500 from outside Thailand. The 17% increase in the number of participating companies combined with a 17.8% increase in visitor attendance.

The strong response to the show reflects the importance of Thailand as the hub for the South East Asian processing and packaging markets and Bangkok’s accessibility and competitiveness as a centre for attracting visitors from Asia and the Middle East. In spite of the challenges of higher oil prices and a slowing world economy regional growth is expected to reach exceed 5% in 2005 and 2006.

The foundations for the growth of Propak Asia 2005 was built upon a 95% repeat exhibitor base from the previous show and first time participation by companies from Thailand, France, Australia and the USA and groups from Korea and China.

Amongst the first time exhibitors were Myers International of the USA, providers of plastic material handling solutions. John R. Senese, Managing Director, said, ‘’Propak Asia has been one of the best shows we have ever participated in, with the first day alone registering more than 80 leads. We are in the process of appointing representatives in Thailand and have achieved all our objectives.’’

IWKA continues to be a major supporter of Propak Asia, showing a full range of filling and packaging machines. IWKA’s Production Director, Frank Werum, commented, ’’Propak Asia has been well organised and an amazing exhibition. It has provided us with many interested buyers.’’

The British presence at the show for the third consecutive year reflects the positioning of the show within the ASEAN market place and the strong interest in UK solutions for the industry. Participation by six companies in the official pavilion was complemented by the staging of the seminar, ‘’Improving quality, performance & monitoring through better processing and packaging’’, which attracted 170 delegates. John Cowdrey, Events Manager for the PPMA, said, ‘’this year’s show has been very successful for our group with the sale of six machines being confirmed by group members to new customers. We are very pleased with the response to the show and look forward to continuing to use the Bangkok event as a regional showcase for UK industry’’.

The success of Propak Asia 2005 is expected to provide a platform for further growth in 2006.The show will expand into a fourth hall in the BITEC centre in Bangkok and will be held from 14-17 June. According to Ms Warisara Naiyachit, Project Manager of the show, ‘’Propak Asia 2005 has received a record number of reservations for the 2006 event and we have also received interest from several new companies interested in moving into the market.’’

Propak Asia is organised by Bangkok Exhibition Services (BES) and marketed internationally by London based Overseas Exhibition Services Ltd; both companies are members of Allworld Exhibitions. BES is also branching out into the fast growing Vietnamese market, with the second Propak Vietnam show being held from 1-3 December 2005 in Ho Chi Minh City.
