Greetings from the "Frozen Eastern Wilderness",

ok, so not to panic, you do not need worry about

the cylinder.

If you have a mechanic that knows anything about hydraulics have him or her-

1. Measure the stroke of the cylinder stem from the fully extended position.

1A measure the cylinder retracted length from the center of the rod eye pin to the center of the barrel eye pin.

1B Measure the cylinders extended length from the

rod eye pin center to the barrel eye pin center.

1C measure the length of the retracted cylinder from the end of the barrel to the end of the rod eye.

1C take note of the exterior of the cylinder if there is a control vave block welded to the barrel ends and feeding oil to the cylinder ports it is a cylinder that has a barrel mounted check valve.

1D serial numbers and builders plates are usually

painted over so they should not be hard to find.

use isopropyl alcohol to help clean the cylinder,

{its inexpensive and it is not hazardous as it evaporates harmlessly}

to find the builders information- usually the cylinders have a tag riveted to the barrel-it could be near the top or at the bottom of the cylinder barrel.

Measure the exterior diameter of the cylinder

barrel

3 Measure the rod eye pin diameter.

4 Measure the barrel end pin diameter

5 If it is a tie rod cylinder you are really in luck as it is even easier to take care of: A tie rod cylinder has 4 long bolts holding the cylinder together.

6 If you are lucky enough to have a hydraulic supply and repair shop near you they can help you quickly as all hydraulic cylinders are standardised with SAE or ISO designations, take a picture of the cylinder and give it to them to help you with the repair- besure to tell them if it is a metric cylinder-you will know this if you have BSP-Brithish standard pipe fittings in it or

if the hydraulic hoses and fittings are metric.

A lot of companies also insist on hydraulic cylinders that are disposable and not repairable.

most of all do not panic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can and will help you at no charge if you like or as always my advice and instruction is always free :^)

If you can send me a picture via e-mail and I can help you quickly-please be sure it is of good quality so I can see it in its entirety from sev eral vantage points if possible.

I will also be able to tell you if the cylinder has a internal or external packing gland and rod wiper as well.
