TARMAC ENTER CHINESE AGGREGATE MARKET WITH MOBILE CRUSHING CONCEPT

Multi-national aggregates producer Tarmac, has opted for a mobile crushing operation with two Lokotrack crushers from Metso Minerals for its new 650 t/h quarry in Huzhou, China; to serve the fast growing Shanghai area with quality aggregates for building and highways construction.

Tarmac Aggregates (Huzhou) Ltd. has taken delivery of a mobile crushing process featuring a track-mounted Lokotrack LT140 primary jaw plant and a Lokotrack LT1315 secondary impactor plant from Metso Minerals; for its new 650 t/h quarry in Huzhou, China.

The track-mounted units crush rock at the quarry face as a two-stage process, before it is transported to a nearby stationary screening plant by truck. Aggregates for building and highway projects are then shipped by an efficient barge fleet using the canal network between Huzhou and Shanghai.

“Combination of mobile and stationary processes most efficient”

According to Tarmac Aggregates (Huzhou) Ltd’s Project Manager, Terry King, the company had originally planned the quarry crushing to be a mobile operation. At a later planning stage however, it became clear that mobile crushing and stationary screening would be the best solution.

“We are currently shaping the limestone quarry faces for the most efficient production, and have built the screening plant in a temporary position,” he said, adding, “The stationary screening plant will then be moved to its permanent position, some 500 metres from the quarry within a few months.

“We have tested, fine tuned and started aggregate production with the mobile crushing plant,” he said. According to the test results Tarmac can easily meet the targeted 650 t/h production; and has even produced close to 700 t/h with the Lokotracks.”

Four different end products ‘around-the-clock’

The Tarmac Huzhou quarry produces four different aggregate grades in a continuous, 24 h operation. Targeted end products are 0-5 mm, 5-15 mm, 15-25 mm and 25-35 mm. Actual operation per day is 20 hours, and four hours are reserved for servicing.

The Lokotrack LT140, equipped with the sturdy C140 jaw crusher, crushes with 150 mm closed side setting. Loading is carried out by a Caterpillar 385 excavator.

At the secondary stage, the Lokotrack LT1315 equipped with NP1315 impact crusher operates with a 65 mm setting. After the crushing stages, Tarmac Huzhou is using a fleet of Chinese made Steyr trucks to transport the rock to the stationary screening plants.
