Ship Loading Plant

From an international invitation to tender the Anlagenbau und Fördertechnik Arthur LOIBL GmbH was awarded a contract on the planning, manufacture and erection of a ship loading plant for a German inland port on the Rhine.

The plant consists of various main components, like e.g. feeding hopper with discharging chute, the telescopic, lifting and lowering belt conveyor, the required steel structure as well as a complete EMSR system (located in a container) making it possible to deliver a turnkey plant.

This plant is loading blast furnace and steelworks slag as well as slag sand. Delivery is made by trucks. Since Rhine vessels of varying sizes are to be loaded as well as considering the minimum and maximum navigable water level of the Rhine it was necessary to develop a ship loader which meets all of these requirements.

The result was that the ship loader is to cover an elevation of 11 m as well as a telescopability of 9 m. The hoist for the height adjustment was mounted onto the dolphins and is accessible by a staircase. Additional maintenance cranes around the hoist as well in the feeding hopper area facilitate all operations in case of repair and thus increase the safety for the staff employed.

For wearing protection the feeding hopper with a content of 55 m3 was additionally provided with high-quality compound plates. In the feeding area the conveyor is ascending. After a radius passage there is a slightly ascending self-supporting bridge section where the telescopic part of the belt conveyor is integrated. The mobile part of the loading conveyor is slewing round a fixed pivot. The section of the carrying idlers in the passing area is radius shaped and displaceably arranged so that the belt cannot bend or buckle.

The feed head allows displacing of the discharging drum without interruption of the loading process within the required beam of the vessel. In this feed head there are two reversing pulleys to form a belt loop which is movable at a constant belt length and mutually balancing the belt forces.

Additionally, a water spraying plant was installed in the dumping area at the feeding hopper and above the belt conveyor reducing the environmental load due to the dust development.

Technical data:

Conveying capacity: 500 t/h

Belt width: 1,000 mm

Center distance: 62 m

Height adjustment: 11 m

Telescopability: 9 m

Conveying speed: 2.0 m/s

Installed total power: 100 kW

Total weight delivered: approx. 130 t

Within the fixed schedule the plant could preliminarily be handed over to the customer and the Final acceptance took place after expiration of the warranty period.

The Anlagenbau und Fördertechnik Arthur LOIBL GmbH proved once more that they can take complex customer demands and find a solution to his full satis
