Modern Moisture Measurement by TEWS Elektronik

The material moisture is essential for quality assurance of food. A detailed knowledge of the product moisture allows saving energy costs and gaining a high product quality.

The microwave moisture measuring instruments of TEWS are available for process control and laboratory. The experience gained with our measuring instruments in a wide spread area of food industry ( e.g. sweets like caramel, sugar, fondant, cocoa and marzipan, in cereal products like grains flour and seed and many more applications ) shows the main advantages of the microwave resonator technique:

• very fast with measuring periods less than one second,

• independence of colour, grain size and surface influence,

• measurement of the core moisture of the product and

• independence of weight and density of package.

The possibility to connect the instruments to PCs and process control devices shows the effort for applying quality standards (ISO 9000).

For the laboratory use are different tube-like resonators ( 1ml up to 2000ml ) available depending on product and moisture range. The measurement will be carried out after filling in the product without weighing and grinding of the product.

A automatically moisture measuring in the production process is possible by using the process instrument. A disc-like, so called planar sensor will be placed directly into the production stream. The moisture of the flowing product will be measured directly. The moisture reading can be used to control a dryer.

If the density option is wished the moisture measuring instrument can be placed in a bypass to the product mainstream.
