Removing tramp metal from Hyd Lime Pneumatic Conv

Posted in: , on 28. Aug. 2004 - 14:10

Can anyone suggest a means for removing -10mm tramp metal from a 30tph stream of hydrated lime being pneumaticly conveyed between two storage bins?

It is currently being blown onto an enclosed 8mm aperture vibrating screen over the second bin but clogs and blocks this especially when surges occur.

Removal Of Tramp Metal

The tramp metal can be effectively removed at the point where the material is falling by gravity, specifically, between the device that separates the conveying gas (cyclone or receiving filter) and the receiving bin.

In this area one can install a fast-acting diverter valve that is designed to detect and reject tramp metal as it falls in a gravity stream. The diverter-type of metal separators are commercially packaged and readily available.

I trust this solution will work for you.

Metal Scrap Removal

You should remove the tramp metal before feeding it into the pneumatic conveying system. In a pneumatic conveying system, 10 mm size metal scrap will cause all kinds of problems. Tramp metal removers and instructions for their installation are available from several vendors. We will be happy to help you if you need further information.

Tramp Metal

Thank you for the responses and I will contact the people you have recommended.

One of the problems in removing the metal prior to the blowline is that wear in the puipe itself can produce slivers that would generate a spark in the pure oxygen atmosphere.

With thanks

Mike.
