I'm trying to create a fem model of a bulk belt conveyor but i don't know the young modulus of the ST3150 belt.

It's possible to relate young modulus to tensile stregth given by catalogue of the most popular steel cord belt producers.

Thanks a lot, Michele

Michele,

You should contact the manufacturer of the belt for this data. If they cannot help, they should be able to tell you who the manufacturer of the steel cord is.

The steel cord manufacturer will be able to provide you with the data if you provide them with the steel cord specifications.

Good luck in your search for information.

Hello Michele,

Regarding modulus of elasticity of belt, the typical values given by Indian Standard Specification are as below :

Cotton : 9 x belt rating

Polyamide : 7 x belt rating

Polyester : 16 x belt rating

Polyamide / Cotton : 5 x belt rating

Polyester / Cotton : 14 x belt rating

Steel Cord : 50 x belt rating

The above will give belt modulus of elasticity in unit kN/m or N/mm. The values as above are average / typical. For example if you have got St1000 belt then the modulus of elasticity will be 50000 kN/m.

The above provides the data for general / average use. The more specific details is to be obtained from belt manufacturers.

The belt modulus of elasticity are also given in Dunlop UK published catalogues. The aforesaid values are similar to Dunlop published data.
