Powder Transport

Can anyone explain to me how the choking velocity relates to the pneumatic transport of powders?

I am investigating the transport of impounded substances for the UK Customs and Excise so that they can be safely transported to a disposal point without undue danger to the public.

Are there any other factors I need to be aware of?

Thanks in advance

Choking is a dilute-phase conveying condition that occurs in a vertical conveying line where the transport velocity is below that needed to maintain the conveyed material in suspension.

Saltation is a dilute-phase conveying condition that occurs in a horizontal conveying line where the transport velocity is below that needed to maintain the conveyed material in suspension.
