We have good experience using commercially available "high-tension electric grid power line" hydraulic winding/unwinding tensioning machines for horizontal conveyors. The machine is good to 10 tonnes pull.

For downhill or uphill, feeding from head end, ask Larry Kuzik of Canada Conveyor Belt. He has built the world's strongest and safest belt press control for lowering large belt mass such as Los Pelambres ST-7800 N/mm x 1800mm wide dropping 1400 m.
