Hi

I am trying to design a new machine and I am wondering if anyone could helpl me check if the screen size will be big enough for the job.

It will be a 3 deck screen screening topsoil down to 10mm. due to the design of the machine each deck will be a different size.

The top deck will be 2.1m X 2.1m second deck 2.1m X 1.85m and the final deck would measure 2.1m X 1.7m.

There will be approx 950 tons per hour going over it.

Any help would be appreciated greatly

Regards

Keith

Dear Keith,

In order to get a meaningful answer, I suggest that you please specify incoming material, its characteristics and its size distribution. Please also mention the screen out size for each deck.

At a glance, the size 2.1m x 2.1m for rate of 950 tonnes/hr looks to be inadequate. However, it depends upon the aperture size in deck. If the apertures are very big then possibly your size may be right. The size is also related to the screening efficiency.

Hi Ishwar

Thanks for the reply

The material will be topsoil (earth) and it will be very dry so will be very free flowing, particle size will vary greatly but maximum particle size will be approx 4 inch.

I suspect that the screen size will be inadequate, however due to machine design there is not a lot of room. The feed elevator will also be 2.1m so the full width of the screen deck will be utilized, I only need to get aproximately 25% final sized material.

The screen appertures I thought would be 2" on top deck then 1" then going down to a final half inch finished size.

Screen Sizing

Hi Keith,

Multotec is a Group with eight operating Companies, dealing in the minerals processing field. One of the companies specialises in screen cloth and is a manufacturer with many OEM clients. The screen you are proposing is an interesting challenge. Can you supply a full size distribution of the feed material and the moisture content? We may then be able to help with ideas.

regards

Ken

Vibrating Screen Sizing Formula

Posted on 3. Aug. 2003 - 06:21

Hello: This data is the base data - I use for sizing vibrating screens. The formula starts with basic assumptions applied into a formula by VSMA to have a start point to begin with.

Here is the mathematical formula to select and size the proper type of vibrating screen. Pretty much self explanatory. BUT, This data works on 7 big vibrating screen companies collection of basic INFIELD DATA, collected by actual EXPERIENCE. This equation is the "GENERAL rule of thumb" if you will. The BED DEPTH calculation is very very important to cross check after doing the sizing formula and double checking you are NOT working with too much material depth of the screen cloth.

All of this data at the very end is once again subject to EXPERIENCE in the field, on the material being screened by EXPERIENCED operators imput.

Important NOTE: This formula starts with a basic plug in EFFICIENCY of 95% assuming screening on the TOP DECK opening. If you only need 25% efficiency - the equation with give you a variable effiency factor adjustment value. This will make the machine smaller vs larger. More moisture = less free flowing = bigger deck needed to maintain efficiency, etc, etc.

Lastly: Trommel type screens - Rotating drums quite often used here due to MOISTURE, NON FREE FLOW characteristics of top soil, clayey and compacting nature of material at times. Earth is very seldom dry free flowing in my experience.

I am available to do FULL ONSITE "Generic Seminars in full detail on these topics if this is of interest. I have been doing this since 1977.

the screen you propose seems far too small regards from my experience

How Big Should It Be?

if too small..........pls advise correct sizing. TKS....GEORGE
