Pipe Conveyor

Posted in: , on 19. Jun. 2003 - 17:29

Hello Sirs,

I'm wondering if there is anybody who can help me.

I'm doing a design assignment for transportation of cement.

I've chosen a pipe belt conveyer as transportmode, but can not find much information about this.

My questions are,

what is the filling rate of a pipe belt conveyer

how much of the belt width should overlap

how fast may the belt go and what is recommended

Kind regard,

Jos van Rhee

PS

The design parameters: 2500 MTPH, distance 2500 meters.

Material: cement.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't have access to those articles.

I made the following asumtions:

16 % overlap

60 % filling ratio

4.19 m/s belt speed

Kind regards,

Dear Jos,

Answers:

1. filling rate: 70% of crossection is the norm depends on lump size, and tracking control which is influenced by conveyor profile.

2. overlap size: about 150 mm

3. max. speed - not one answer

a) depends on product, belt profile geometry, belt construction, idler constuction, economics .......

b) like conventional belt conveyors, speeds are increasing > 5 m/s as designers better understand the physicsand the design control constraints.

Please contact the manufacturer of pipe conveyors for specific details. Your requirement looks to be well within the range of reputed manufacturers. You may require 450 mm ‘diameter’ pipe conveyor with belt width of 1800 mm, speed around 4.5 mps.

In general, filling ratio is 70% to 80%. The belt edges overlap will be as per the construction of the manufacturers.

As you have nearly 2.5 km long conveyor, it is likely to be with steel cord belt.

Dear sir

for cement hadling we recomend following

1,0 Maximum speed 3 m/sec concidering fludisation of cement

2.0 Belt width 4 times of pipe dia

3.0 filling factor for cement can go up to 74 percent

4.0 At loading point inclination shall be less than 10 deg

Dear JOS,

The following should be considered :

1.Filling factor shall not be more than 75%

2.Over lap shall be 1/2 the pipe diameter.

Hello Jos,

Referring to your questions concerning the transport of cement with a Pipe Conveyor we would like to commend the following.

1.filling rate

the filling rate of a Pipe Conveyor is normally about 70% to 75%. In your case we calculated filling rate is 76% which is ok.

2.overlap of belt

the overlap of belt depends of the pipe diameter. For your design we recommend a pipe diameter of 600mm. The belt width is 2250mm, so the overlapping of belt will be approx. 300mm.

3.belt speed

for a pipe with a diameter of 600mm we recommend a maximum speed of 4,52 m/s – generally. Transporting cement request a quit lower speed, in our experience with cement we normally work with 1,7 m/s if the installation is horizontally, - at least at the loading point. Belt speeds over 1,7 m/s (like this case) require an downhill belt loading to calm the cement after charging. In your case we calculate a belt speed of 3.2 m/s, but assuming a downhill loading point (approx. 5°).

For further or more detailed information please do not hesitate to contact us. We are the leading Pipe Conveyor constructor with over 160 reference installations all over the world.

Dear Jos,

The following can be considered :

a. 75 % filling factor

b. Belt widht should be 4 times of pipe dia. (thumb rule, can depend from case to case)

c. speed recommended 4.5 m/sec.

we have commissioned a 3.2 km single flight pipe conveyor in Gujarat, send us your mail id and we can post the same to you for your info.

Hi Jos,

I refer to your request for basic information on pipe conveyors for a cement application.

Having reviewed all the comments above, it appears that the suggestions by Koch (S. Brengel) are the most suitable for your application.

The major areas of concern are belt feeding, (the way it is fed).

Generally one should try to avoid an air slide or any feed system that aerates the cement.

Also the support idler system including spacing needs careful consideration.

Thanks

Pipe/Tube Conveyor System

Dear Mr. Stefan Brengel,

How about for the mining industry, do you have any reference list that presently uses this tube/pipe conveyor system?

The brand that you are referring to is KOCH, right? Which, I believe is a member now of BEUMER Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG, Germany...

I would appreciate your help on this matter.

Kind regards,

Mhel
