Gypsum Silo

We are to build a new gypsum silo and we wonder whether we can use a flat bottom (like clinker silos) or you advise to employ a rather conventional one.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions, I know that they will be very valuable for the final design.

First of all I have to tell you that I am not objective in this matter. Our company has built more than 35 gypsum silos all over the world. They all have flat bottoms and a mechanism inside.

If you need such an advanced silo depends on the type of gypsum. If this is the product of a flue gas desulfurization proces you certainly do. This FGD Gypsum with a moisture of typical between 8 and 12% is very cohesive and cannot be stored in normal silos. (well, you can store it but it will not come out;-)

Dry calcinied gypsum is not cohesive and does not need to be stored in a eurosilo type silo.

Estoy de acuerdo con la repuesta tecnica de Eurosilo sobre el typo de producto

Pero siguiente mi experienca en yeso es mejor de usar un extractor planetario sobre fondo plano que permite de ajustar el caudal,evita la segregation y mueve la masa dentro el silo haciendo First in / First out

Use a screw type bin discharger made by vendors such as Acrison for your material. This discharger is installed at the bottom of the vertical section of the bin, thus eliminating the hopper section. The number of screw conveyors will depend on the size of the bin.

We recommend to use a planetary screw unloader on flat bottom first in / first out

You have a crossing beam on silo diameter containing motorisation which drive screw

That give you access possibility to motor and screw

Storage Capacity?

I think that it is important to know of what storage capacities we are talking.

Bottom reclaiming type solutions are typical used for volumes smaller than a 1000 m3.

Indeed the accebility of the equipment may be cumersome. Especially because the forces that burying the extraction mechanisms are frequently underestimated, resulting in damage.

For large storage capacities than 1000 m3 one better use a Eurosilo. For gypsum we built them up to 14.000 m3. The filling and reclaiming equipment acts on the surface of the contents. So they have no buryied parts.

From our experience first in/ first out is no issue for gypsum. The material does not degrade chemically nor biologically.

Mammoth Silos

The Spaans Silo systems for free-flowing and non-free flowing products are available for volumes from app. 10.000m up to 100.000 m and loading capacities up to 1500 t/h.

The Spaans silo is based on a mechanical loading and unloading principle. The dependence on gravity for unloading is eliminated by creating a artificial core flow through a central column.

Another specific feature of the system is that, in contrast with most other silo systems, no mechanical equipment is installed under the stored product.

This makes that all equipment is fully accessible for maintenance. It also makes the system independent of the storage-height of the product because no equipment can be blocked due to the weight of the stored product.

Your study should certainly consider a vibrating floor, should you want to go for simplicity, reliability, and negligible operation and maintenance costs.

We propose a modular system, composed of premounted individual vibrating modules, customised to any shape or size of silo.

One of our latest reference is a self-unloading flour ship, with a contractual residue of 0.002%.
